 "Too Far to Whisper" (10 tracks; 42 min.) brings the perfect mix of the band jazzy-new age instrumental music. From the opening sounds of the title track, the music feels laser-sharp, and with memorable hooks left and right. The slow "What Goes Around" is the only track on here that features vocals, and it feels a bit out of place, frankly. "China Blue" brings, not surprisingly, oriental sounds. "Orangutan Gang (Strikes Back)" is an up-tempo song that brings out the best in the band's interplay in its rich instruments, and one of my favorite tracks on here. "Streetnoise" is another urgent track that wants to make you wanna get up and dance, enjoying Chuck's wood flutes and lyricon, just great. Truth be told, there is barely a weak track on here, and it's easy to see why this became Shadowfax's best selling album: it's just enough mainstream yet it keeps its edge.
Back in the mid and late 80s, I was a HUGE fan of the Windham Hill label, and bought quite a few of its then-vinyl album releases. I didn't repurchase them all on CD, but this album was one of them, and I'm glad I did, looking back after all these years. Back then, there would be the sporadic Windham Hill label tour, packaging a number of their artists, and on one of them, I caught Shadowfax in concert, and what a show they put on, just fantastic. Meanwhile, "Too Far to Whisper" remains as fresh today as when it was releases 23 years ago (has it really been that long?). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

 The legendary first pressing of Shadowfax is that I present today. He became legendary because Shadowfax, was a silence of about 7 years! When Windham Hill welcomed them, reissued this album, but Windham Hill style: cover new, changes in the original recording ... what a mistake! The original cover is a art piece.
I have the reissue on CD, when you hear the LP and to compare the songs altered of the CD ('Petite Aubade', 'Watercourse Way' and 'Song for my brother'), will be eliminated instrumentation (this edition brings passages with Mellotron and harpsichord). 'Watercourse Way' totally new ... by God!
Returning to this album, I find it a masterpiece. There is no denying the influence of different groups that cultivate the Jazz-Rock, Jazz-Fusion and some classical music. Influences like 'Mahavishnu Orchestra', 'Return to Forever' and 'Oregon'.
I think it's an album especially for fans of Shadowfax (not both), in its most progressive and experimental.
I give it 6 stars of 5. :9

El mítico primer prensado de Shadowfax es este que hoy presento. Pasó a ser mítico porque Shadowfax tuvo un silencio aproximado de ¡7 años! Cuando Windham Hill los acogió, reeditaron este álbum, pero al estilo Windham Hill: carátula nueva y cambios en la grabación original… ¡qué gran error! La carátula original es una obra de arte.
Tengo la reedición en CD, cuando escuchen el LP y puedan comparar las canciones alteradas del CD ('Petite Aubade', 'Watercourse Way' y 'Song for my brother'), verán que se eliminó instrumentación (esta edición trae pasajes con Mellotron y clavecín). 'Watercourse Way' la reversionaron…¡por Dios!
Volviendo a este disco, lo encuentro una obra maestra. Es innegable la influencia de distintos grupos que cultivan el Jazz-Rock, el Jazz Fusion y algo de música clásica. Influencias de grupos como 'Mahavishnu Orchestra', 'Return to Forever' y 'Oregon'.
Creo que es un LP especial para los seguidores de Shadowfax (y no tanto), en su etapa más progresiva y experimental.
Le doy 6 estrellas de 5. :9

 "Shadowdance" is the second Shadowfax's work, under the umbrella of Windham Hill label. I would say is the music off in his previous works in that strange instrument (sound) like physically a clarinet and called 'lyricon', gives the characteristic touch to all your music. This album, in turn, reversal 2 songs from their first LP (outside WH): 'Watercourse way' and 'A song for my brother', the latter is the beautiful songs I've ever heard, well arranged that the role of the electric guitar is indispensable.
Certainly a very balanced album.

'Shadowdance' es el segundo trabajo de 'Shadowfax', bajo el alero del sello Windham Hill. Diría que es el despegue en lo musical de sus trabajos anteriores, en que ese extraño instrumento (en sonido) parecido físicamente a un clarinete y llamado 'lyricon' le da ese toque característico a toda su música. Este álbum a su vez, reversiona 2 canciones de su primer LP (fuera de WH): 'Watercourse way' y 'A song for my brother', está última es de las hermosas canciones que me haya tocado escuchar, muy bien arreglada en que el rol de la guitarra eléctrica es indispensable.
Ciertamente, un álbum muy equilibrado.

Cuando salió a la luz este disco en 1987 me sorprendí por la manera de tocar de Shadowfax y su propuesta ecléctica rock new age que hacían, era algo novedoso en la época; pues les afirmo que ahora en esta fecha su sonido sigue vigente y más aún, el tema apocalíptico de canciones folklóricas para una villa nuclear no nos son ajenas ya a la modernidad que vivimos y a un presagio de un holocausto en el cual esta música definitivamente encuadraría a la perfección.
